About NateThanks for visiting my website. Just a little bit about me. I am originally from a small town in central Louisiana but I currently live in Houston, Texas. I graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, (yes, that MIT) with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. I’m married and my wife and I met in college. She went to MIT as well and has two degrees, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Brain and Cognitive Sciences. We have four daughters, including a set of twins. I currently work as an Engineering Manager in the Defense Sector. My wife is a Software Engineer. People often ask me why a guy with an education from a prestigious university and a high paying job would be in network marketing. It’s really very simple. Engineers don’t live the lifestyle that I dreamed about as a child. Engineers have to answer to a boss. Engineers work long hours away from home. Engineers deal with a lot of stress and give up a lot of family time, outside interests, and freedom for the sake of their careers. To sum it all up, we have to make some pretty big sacrifices in exchange for our salaries. Like most people, I struggled at the beginning of my network marketing career. In the initial trainings I got from my company and the upline leaders, I was taught that my business plan was to make out a list of everyone I knew and to prospect a certain number of those people every day. I was told that some people would join and some people wouldn’t join, just don’t give up. That sounded simple enough! I spent a lot of time chasing my friends and family and driving back and forth to hotel meetings. I dealt with a lot of no-shows, a lot of rejection and, because of my persistence, I alienated some of my closest friends and family. The worst part of the experience was the fact that for all my efforts, after 3 and a half years of trying every technique I could think of, I only built a team of 9 people and grossed about $250. I knew there had to be a better way to operate my business. It just didn’t make sense to me that my success was so dependent on whether my friends and family decided to join me or support me. A successful Network Marketing Entrepreneur can give the CEO of any Fortune 500 company a run for his money in the income department, so why are we being taught to run our businesses like we’re selling Girl Scout Cookies? After taking a step back to evaluate why I wasn’t achieving success I decided to “go back to school”, so to speak. I realized that I needed to get an education in the field of network marketing, just as I had gotten an education in the field of engineering. I have always been a do-it-yourself kind of guy, so I engrossed myself in every book and course I could find on the topic of marketing. I studied direct response marketing, network marketing, internet marketing, affiliate marketing, as well as guerilla marketing strategies. I soon realized that instead of teaching us marketing skills that would enable us to get our message in front of our target audience (which, by the way, is not our friends and family), the network marketing companies are teaching us sales techniques and networking tactics to use on the people that we already know and the people that we meet. My marketing education is paying off. By applying what I have learned about marketing, I am generating leads using both internet marketing strategies and offline strategies in my local area. Now I’m not claiming to be some guru and I definitely don’t know all there is to know about marketing. I have, however, picked up some useful marketing skills, many of which are explained in the articles and videos on this site. As a result, I no longer feel compelled to chase my friends and family or to get out of the house and meet people just so I can try to recruit them into my downline. Believe me, that is a great feeling. If you are struggling to generate leads and would like to bounce around some ideas, feel free to leave me a comment or connect with me through my contact page.
